The lyrics speak for themselves, I think. Our salvation and redemption is accomplished by His work and not our own. This is not to say that our work is not important. In fact, it MUST be there - faith that doesn't produce works is dead and cannot save. However, much like an electromagnetic field is the result of electricity moving through wire, the field is not the cause - it's an effect.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I measured mountains with my hands
Tried to count each grain of sand
Built a thousand roads to Heaven
None could bear a single man
[Verse 2]
Then the Carpenter stood silent
Arms outstretched upon a tree
Every question found one answer:
"Come to Me!" (Come to Me!)
[Bridge]
Nothing I could bring
Is worthy of the King
All the crowns I've tried to wear
I lay them at Your feet
Christ my hope!
Oh, Christ my peace!
His grace is sufficient for me!
[Chorus]
It all comes back to God made flesh
It all comes back to the cross
It all comes back to the empty tomb
It all comes back to His grace
Every chain falls away
Every debt is erased
Oh, it all comes back
When we seek His face
[Guitar solo]
[Verse 3]
I traded mercy for religion
Sold my hope for velvet chains
Turned the wine back into water
Spoke His name, but never sought His face!
[Verse 4]
I filled the silence with my own noise
Drew my borders in the sand
Forgot the wonder of my first love
Abandoned God to trust in man
[Bridge 2]
Every altar built by hands
Every kingdom carved in sand
Every promise made by men
Falls before I AM!
Christ, my hope!
Oh, Christ, my peace!
His grace is sufficient for me!
[Chorus]
It all comes back to God made flesh
It all comes back to the cross
It all comes back to the empty tomb
It all comes back to His grace
Every chain falls away
Every debt is erased
Oh, it all comes back
When we seek his face
[Interlude - instrumental build-up to the finale]
[Outro]
Christ, my LORD!
Christ, my king!
Christ my savior, my everything!
[Final chorus]
It all comes back to God made flesh
It all comes back to the cross
It all comes back to the empty tomb
It all comes back to His grace
Every chain falls away
Every debt is erased
Oh, it all comes back
When we seek his face
