Notes

The word "repent" is often misunderstood. We take it to mean that we feel regret for a wrong we've done, and we apologize, ask forgiveness and move on. That's part of it, but it's not the whole story.

The word used in the Bible for this is usually some form of "metanoia," which includes a complete change of mind and heart. True repentance isn't just apologizing for sin, it's making the attempt to abandon the sinful path altogether.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I've fought these battles on my own
Counted victories that never remained
Every promise I make to myself
Dies before the terrible dawn

[Verse 2]
Tell myself things will get better
But what if they never do?
Don't need false hope that fades away
I need a fundamental change

[Bridge]
Paradigm shift
Nail my conscience to the door
Let my reformation begin

[Chorus]
Let the dead bury the dead
I must be truly born again
To roll away this heart of stone
Cast off the dusty burial shroud
And rise before the heavenly throne

[Verse 3]
The road winds ever on before me
The past still whispers in my mind
But Your word still lights my way
With every step, I'm leaving that life behind

[Verse 4]
My scars still tell their stories
And the old man fights for breath
But Your grace is perfect in my weakness
And so I'm finally coming home

[Bridge]
Kingdom fixation
His magnum opus has, in me, begun
And He will complete it,
Faithfully, in time

[Chorus]
So Let the dead bury the dead
I must be truly born again
To roll away this heart of stone
Cast off the dusty burial shroud
And rise before the heavenly throne

[Outro]
Now Let the dead bury the dead
I must be truly born again
To roll away this heart of stone
Cast off the dusty burial shroud
And rise before the heavenly throne
Oh, and rise before the heavenly throne

[End]
